Every job below is one we do ourselves across Fresno.
We frame new decks from the footings up, using post bases and joist hangers rated for treated lumber. Spacing and beam sizing follow span tables for the load and the height off the ground, not a guess. Most jobs run from a simple ground-level platform to a raised deck with stairs and rail.
Soft boards, a bouncy spot underfoot, a post that's started to lean, we go find the actual cause instead of just swapping the board on top. A lot of the time the real problem is a joist that's rotted where it meets the ledger or a footing that's shifted. We fix the structure first, then the surface.
Sun in the Central Valley dries and cracks unsealed wood faster than most people expect. We pressure wash, let the boards dry fully, then stain or seal with a product rated for UV. Skip a year out here and you're usually looking at sanding, not just a fresh coat.
We'll walk your yard and lay out a deck around how you actually use it, not a standard rectangle. That includes working out stair placement, railing style, and where the structure needs extra beam support for a hot tub or an outdoor kitchen.
Composite boards like Trex or TimberTech don't need yearly staining and won't splinter, but they still need the framing underneath done right. We use hidden fastener clips on most composite jobs for a cleaner surface with no screw heads.
Railings take the most abuse on a deck, kids lean on them, dogs jump at them, and code has specific requirements on height and baluster spacing. We rebuild loose or out-of-code railings and can match wood or cable rail to whatever style your deck already has.
If the frame underneath is still solid but the decking boards are cupped, splintered or faded past saving, we pull just the boards and put down new decking on your existing structure. It's a faster job than a full rebuild and costs a lot less.
This is the part nobody sees once it's finished: ledger flashing, joist hangers, beam sizing, footing depth. A deck that fails almost always fails here first, not in the decking boards on top, so we don't cut corners on it.
Old decks get torn out and hauled off, including old concrete piers if you're not reusing the footprint. We check whether the existing footings can be reused before we demo anything, since that can save you money on the rebuild.
A lot of our deck clients end up wanting shade over part of the structure. We build pergolas and partial covers tied into the deck framing, sized to actually hold up under wind rather than just look good.
Four steps, and no surprises in any of them.
You tell us what you want doing, we look at what is actually there, and we ask the awkward questions early.
In writing, itemised, free. If something might add cost later we flag it now rather than at the end.
Same crew throughout. We cover your floors, keep the dust down and tidy up before we leave each day.
You point out anything you are not happy with and we fix it before the invoice, not after.
